He will enhance the international focus of the leading event in Latin America
Organizational changes in Alimentaria Exhibitions, the Fira Barcelona company that organizes Expo ANTAD & Alimentaria México together with ANTAD (National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores), have led Ricardo Márquez to manage the international food & beverage trade fair that will return to Guadalajara, México, from March 5th to 7th, 2019.
Born in Mexico City, the new director studied in the USA –where he began his professional career- and moved to Barcelona in 2013 to pursue an MBA at ESADE Business School.
Ricardo Marquez will combine the management of Alimentaria México with Alimentaria FoodTech, the trade fair of machinery, technology, processes and ingredients for the food & beverage industry of reference in southern Europe, to be held in the fall of 2020 at the Gran Via venue of Fira Barcelona. His responsibility leading Alimentaria FoodTech has endowed the trade fair with innovation and new business. The last edition of the trade fair, which closed on May 11th, 2018 in Barcelona, brought together close to 40.000 professional visitors and more than 300 exhibitors.
With extensive executive experience in the international trade fair field, Márquez has also served as Area Manager of Qatar for the Fira Barcelona international business department, successfully promoting the Qatar Motor Show and the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, among other local trade fairs. During his time in Qatar, he exported Fira Barcelona’s know-how to the Arab country and managed the development of the services for exhibition business of Fira Barcelona in Qatar. Previously, he worked on planning and executing of the Barcelona Degusta 2015 trade fair as adjunct to the event manager.
One of the priorities of Márquez as new director of Alimentaria México will be to promote the internationalization of exhibiting companies for this professional trade fair that is already the leader in Latin America. The last edition of Expo ANTAD & Alimentaria México was held in March 2018 and brought together, in Expo Guadalajara, more than 1.900 exhibitors -73% of which belong to the food & beverage industry- in 48.000 sqm of exhibition, and 49.300 professional visitors from the industry, retail, distribution, and Food Service channel. 25% of the participants in the trade fair come from more than 30 countries.
